Cash aka Gunner, was picked up as a stray on July 2nd 2015 from a home. The people whose house he was at claimed they were not the owners. No owners came forward until his stray hold was up and then the shelter received a call from the people whom originally called animal control stating that the dog was theirs, but they no longer wanted him and claimed he was a stray so AC would pick up. (Since the shelter did not accept owner surrenders at this time.) The owners admitted that they were constantly forcing Benedryl in him to use as a calming agent. He grew very irritated of this and when they grabbed his mouth he snapped at them. The ... (Read More)girlfriend of the home had a plate of food and sat down to eat when Cash went to sniff her plate she grabbed his nose and he reacted by biting her on the nose causing stitches. There is so much we can say to this, but obviously we know where the true fault lies. We were called to pull Cash from the shelter, but Cash tested positive for Bordetella (Kennel cough) so he was to remain there until he was better so we did not risk anything coming to the rescue home and affecting other dogs. After a week we received a call from a concerned stranger who had seen Cash in the shelter in really bad shape.. he was skin and bones and very scared. She asked if she could take him out of there and care for him until he was better. We of course said yes and here he is now. Cash is now in better health and ready to be adopted into his forever home. He does show some food aggression with dogs only, but we feel he would be best suited in a home with older kids who can understand boundaries. He can be selective on dogs and all males must be neutered but prefers females. He is a 1 year old red and rust natural eared boy with a lot of spunk. He would be best in a home with either a female dog, or no dogs. He is a very loving boy and has no trouble showing affection towards people and of course thinks he is a lap dog. He is not accustomed to walking on a leash and really pulls. He is a counter surfer but immediately corrects with a sharp no. He was not housed with cats, but strays outside are fair game. (Less)
